Any port in a storm. (急場凌ぎ。, Kyūba shinogi) is the 19th episode of the first season of The Ancient Magus Bride anime.
Synopsis[]
Adolf, Tory, and Renfred seek Elias' help concerning kidnapped young dragons. Initially, Elias refuses, but Chise convinces him to do it. During the auction, Chise gets help from a mysterious woman. However, things become complicated when the dragon grows and becomes hostile.
Summary[]
At the College, Adolf and Renfred discuss Chise’s current situation and potential future. To Adolf's dismay, Renfred pours himself some liquor given to him as a Christmas present from Alice. As they do, Tory enters the room and joins in on the conversation as they start talking about Cartaphilus. Merituuli suddenly appears with a peculiar item that catches Renfred’s attention.
Two days pass, and Chise dreams about being in London, and there, she encounters Joseph, who appears to be very lost in both thoughts and whereabouts. Chise talks with him in a park setting, but it doesn’t last long as Joseph is soon unable to handle the pain and reaches out for Chise, prompting her to wake up in cold sweat. Ruth appears from Chise's shadow, and she soon learns that both Merituuli and Alice are at their house.
Following Alice downstairs, Chise sees Elias Adolf, Tory, and Renfred sitting in the living room. Once introductions are out of the way, they explain the situation about the poachers that took the dragonlings and that they want Elias' help. Initially, Elias refuses because it doesn't involve them; however, Chise convinces him to agree. Furthermore figures out that the dragonlings might be up for auction, causing her to call Seth Noel and ask for his help.
Eventually, the group makes their way to the auction house and meets with Seth, who accepts Chise's magical fauna to bid in the auction. At the time of the auction, Chise is offered help from an unknown woman, but things soon turn for the worst as the dragonling suddenly grows and turns hostile. Feeling the dragon’s emotions, Chise can’t help but cry before Elias tries to comfort her and have her focus on the situation.
