The cowl does not make the monk. I (TBA TBA): is the 50th chapter of the manga written by Kore Yamazaki.
Elias and Chise harvest pumpkins when they are approached by an auditor of the church who is suspicious of how Simon has been keeping records on Elias over the past decade. Meanwhile, Ashen Eye appears before Stella as Chise is swept away by a mysterious fog.
Lindel and Adolf continue their discussion from the end of the previous chapter about Elias, trying to learn about more of his history. He was found in a French port that was shipping goods to England back in the eighteenth century. And parts of his character developed during whatever events occurred during that time.
Simon is baking biscuits at his house where Gabriella, the nun who is not quite human, is hanging out when a young auditor arrived and is not too please.
Meanwhile, Chise and Ruth are resting outside their home. Chise is exhausted from her first week at the College and reflects briefly upon her experience with Elias. We learn that it is September at this point in the series. Elias attempts to lay next to Chise on his back but is able to do so due to his horns. Chise offers a solution of having him lay his head in her lap as she sits up. Not only is this his first time able to lay on his back and look up at the sky, he is so comfortable in Chise's lap he ends up falling asleep. Silky sneaks up on the gang to remind them that the pumpkins and squash are ready to be harvested.
Elias and Chise are harvesting pumpkins while discussing the history of Samhain and Halloween when Gabriella appears directly in front of Chise to announce that Elias' "long decade of peace" he has enjoyed is threatened. Elias is encouraged to visit Simon's house sooner rather than later.
Stella shows up, reminding Chise that they had plans to hang out together. Elias almost reluctantly separates from the group to go to Simon's house on his own. Chise and Stella briefly discuss what the new College experience is like when a thick fog appears, whisking away Chise and Ruth, leaving Stella on her own. That is, until Ashen Eye appears directly behind her.
The Auditor is not happy at all with Simon's record keeping on Elias, his notes resembling a diary more than an observation of him. The Auditor is confused since all Elias' previous observers were chased away by him, all noting he is "extremely aggressive". He is even more confused when Elias seemingly lets himself into Simon's home as if an old acquaintance, despite Simon's notes stating that Elias is merely a "passing acquaintance".
