Introduction

East, west, home's best. (やはり我が家が一番良い。, Yahari wagaya ga ichiban'ii) is the 13th episode of the first season of The Ancient Magus Bride anime.
Synopsis[]
After an incident during the summerily wooly sheering, Chise has a heart-to-heart with Elias where she reveals that she's aware of his cravings for humans. Immediately, Elias tries to erase the memory, but Chise stops him and conveys that he's the only family she has now. The sentiment moves, and Elias notes that he's unable to express or comprehend human emotions. Also, one night, a visitor from Elias' past, named Ashen Eye, stops by.
Summary[]
A disembodied voice compliments Chise as scenes from the future play out.
Amazed by the Woolybugs, Chise learns from Elias their species name and that they're more than usual out. They then start sheering the wool off of the Woolybugs, and as they do this, Elias explains that their leftover wool is used for pillows that would allow her to sleep well. When a snow bug steals the body heat from Chise, Elias fends them off and sends Chise indoors to warm up.
Afterward, Chise awakens in the greenhouse lying on Elias' lap. Although Chise wants to leave, Elias insists she stays and talks to him about her time in Dragons' Aerie. Amid this, it's revealed that Chise is privy to Elias' impulse to eat humans and the time he was tempted to eat her in his inhuman form.
Upon learning this, Elias nearly erases the memory; however, Chise prevents him from doing so. Chise admits to Elias that since she lost her parents and brother, Elias was her only family, so the thought of losing Elias scares her more than anything. She also reveals that both her parents had "sight" and could see the same creatures that most humans cannot see. Overall, she was happy when Lindel talked about Elias' past to her.
Elias claims that humans lie, which Chise doesn't deny; however, he believes in what she said and admits that he has no emotional experience. This excludes when he felt abnormally cold when Chise was gone and warm when she returned. Chise recognizes this as loneliness and promises to teach him human things.
After this was settled, Elias examines Chise's wand and praises it as well made.
Time passes by, and a coughing Simon visits Elias' House, asking for his usual medicine. When Chise fetches it, she also serves him some elderberry syrup to help with his condition. As it turns out, Elias once gave him the same stuff right around he first became acquainted with him.
They're later visited by a faerie acquaintance of Elias named Ashen Eye, who gives Chise a “gift” for capturing and binding fellow spirits. He traps Chise in an animal skin, transforming her into a fox.
