Introduction
|
Slow and sure. I is the 7th episode of the second season of The Ancient Magus Bride anime.
Synopsis[]
Chise attends P.E. as Elias looks on. Philomela is summoned home. Alice stubbornly continues her training, while Adolf consoles Renfred through his troubles. The students embark on a camping trip.
Summary[]
In the past, both Rían and Philomela were shown to be good friends in their childhood. Philomela would help Rían climb a tree in a backyard someplace; however, in present times, they seem to have grown apart.
The assignment for Gym class is Bouldering, and Chise and Zoe watch from the sidelines as Isaac approaches them and asks how life in College is going for them. After they give their respective responses, Rían briefly joins the conversation before being ordered to continue the training by the P.E. teacher Whoopi. When Rian does, he walks past Philomela, who finishes the task and gets complimented by Chise, who then tries and help Lucy, who fell from climbing the wall.
Unbeknownst to the class, Elias was there incognito, and Adolf called spotted and asked him about his observations of Chise. He answers that Chise has made different faces while interacting with her student peers, which enviously upset Elias. Adolf could relate to how Elias felt, and when asked about his frequently made faces, Adolf admits he feels homesick about his hometown of Dresden, which was lost in the war. In Elias' opinion, he's uncertain whether Adolf's memories are good or bad, but his memories are mere recollections, and he cannot recall everything. Giving a rebuttal, Adolf claims it's too complicated to decide whether a memory is good or bad. However, Adolf claims that if an experience isn't uncomfortable, then it's a good memory and that Elias should ask other people about their memories. Amid this, Chise, talking with Lucy and Zoe, spots Elias and Adolf and then waves to them. Then, Elias senses Narcisse's presence, but doesn't mind him since his aura projects no mal-intent. On the other hand, Narcisse comments how he was supposed to hand Adolf some documents; however, he unintentionally eavesdrops on his conversation with Elias.
As the class continues, Lucy falls off the climbing wall, and Rían gives her some tips. Watching Chise's conversation with Rían, Philomela is approached by Veronica, who comments on how close Philomela has become with Chise. She then suggests that Philomela become closer to Chise, who tacitly confirms that it was an order.
That night, Philomela covers up April and May in bed, but was after that advised by dorm mother Olivia to get some rest. Returning to her room, Philomela finds a white raven emitting a dark aura from its body with its talon on a letter.
The following day, Veronica awakens in her room and finds a letter from Philomela. The letter from Philomela said she apologized for not following up with her morning routine because she was summoned back home and would return the next morning. Seemingly unfazed by this, Veronica claims she'll "Console" Philomela when she returns.
Meanwhile, Philomela arrives at her home and learns from the two welcomers that her grandmother was in the study room. Philomela heads there and walks past a couple of men who disparage her as a child who stole the successor role from someone. After her brief interaction with the two, Philomela summons her familiar Alcyone and talks to her about Chise, who managed to sense her presence despite being concealed. Alcyone reviews the possibilities of how she was found out, and when Philomela asks her what she should do, Alcyone claims she'll think of something that'd help her.
Philomela enters the study, where her grandmother immediately scolds her for being late and reminds her that she's only in College thanks to Veronica's "Charity". Furthermore, Philomela's grandmother reminds her not to do anything that'd embarrass Veronica and continues the conversation by asking how her studies have been and began to criticize her.
At the College Shooting Range, Alice practices her gun skills there and is soon approached by Whoopi, who inquires why she's been assiduously training there as of late. Believing he was giving her the impression that he was admonishing what she was doing, Whoopie reveals how he became a gelatinous slime because of an experiment gone wrong. In Alice's confession, she admits that someone said something that upset her, and now she wants to impress them. Amused by Alice's response, Whoopi claims she can continue her training, and he'll cover the ammo cap.
Afterward, Adolf would be informed of this request and allowed it. He then spotted Renfred sitting in the corner and, despite having a drink, wasn't off on a gloomy tirade like usual. Renfred claimed he wasn't in the mood, but Adolf claimed he'd not be there if he weren't. Adolf then has a heart-to-heart with Renfred about how he came to love alcohol because of him, and Renfred then admits he wants to keep Alice as a "Child" until "the time comes". Because Alice is eighteen now, she's too old for him to "boss around"; hence he wants her to choose her future and doesn't want her to end like him or his father. Hearing this makes Adolf consider the difference and commonality between a child's and an adult's wants and desires. In Adolf's opinion, Alice merely wants to be of use to Renfred; however, he doesn't necessarily agree with it, and Adolf concludes emotions don't always agree with logic. They then get into a bit of a debate on who was the senior and the other junior. When Renfred passes out, Adolf covers him up and continues his work.
During Home Economics class, Chise talks with Isaac about Bushcraft, that's about learning things to help you survive in nature. That class will be held in Scotland, and Chise laments about her previous experience with camping in elementary and middle school. Overlooking her previous bad camping experiences, Chise hopes the upcoming one will be good.
On the day of the camp trip, the class is split into groups and assigned their essential tasks of setting up camp, a fire, and procuring water. Paired with Lucy, she and Chise scavenge for food together as a hidden figure carefully observes them.
