Plot Overview[]
Amid a thunderstorm, Spriggan, accompanied by his two black dog companions, stand before a glowing rock pillar when a bolt of lightning strikes it, causing horse-ridden men to appear. Their appearance confused Spriggan, who notes they're not forming ranks and chases after them when they flee into the forest.
One day, at Elias' House, Silver Lady insists on helping Chise, who was preparing for College despite it starting within two months. Succumbing to Silver's insistence, Chise has her measurements taken so she can be appropriately fitted for her college outfit. Elias then comments on how Chise has grown since they first met, and then Chise reads a brochure that shows the kinds of uniforms the college provides.
Moments later, a messenger pigeon arrives and takes the paper with Chise's measurements written on it. After it leaves, a chill hits Chise, and Elias then covers her with his jacket and comments how the after-effects of last night's storm. Believing she may have come down with a cold, Elias suggests that Chise rest, and she does with Elias and Ruth by her side.
Elsewhere, a boy named Gabriel packs some of his things from his room and, as he heads out, eavesdrops on an argument between his mother and father. With his box of things, Gabriel takes it to his treehouse in the backyard, where he talks to a friend named Oscar on his cell phone about the rural area he now lives in. Gabriel invites Oscar to his home, but he rejects it for unknown reasons.
After Gabriel finished his call, he overheard his parents arguing again and saw smoke in the distance. Deciding to investigate, Gabriel prepares some things, and before he heads out, his mother stops him and insists he wears his inhaler. A brief argument occurs between them over his inhaler, and Gabriel then rushes off, leaving his mother worried for him.
By that afternoon, Gabriel reaches Witches Hill, where he saw the smoke originate; there, Gabriel finds the stone pillar and takes one of the broken rocks as a souvenir. That night a lone horse spawns by the rock pillar and heads into the forest, and its presence kills a raven in the process. Spriggan who was close by, comments on how strange the Wild Hunt has appeared, then sees the lone horse, noting how it lost its master.
Back at Elias' house, they're visited by Spriggan and the lone horse who, under its request, asked to be taken to Elias. Briefed by Spriggan about the horse's situation and the appearance of the Wild Hunt, Chise appears and notes that she's had the chills since that morning, which the Wild Hunt likely caused. Before taking his leave, Spriggan further explains the situation surrounding the horse and the Wild Hunt.
In the living room, Elias explains the Wild Hunt's background, and Ruth translated to Chise what the horse is saying. The horse explains a bit of its history and that it, as the Wild Hunt's leader, was separated from his master. With Elia's permission, Chise promises to help the horse find its master the following day.
Switching to Gabriel, who polished the rock he had found and was sent backward after it glowed and flashed a bright light. A Mysterious Boy appeared right after this, claiming he was lost. Moments later, Gabriel's mother arrived and scolded him for polishing rocks again, but she was also unable to see the boy who had appeared before him.
Once Gabriel's mother left, Gabriel asked the boy if he was a spirit and of what kind; however, the boy didn't know, leading Gabriel to believe he has amnesia. Hence, in exchange for helping the boy, Gabriel becomes his friend. Taking an interest in the stone that Gabriel had found earlier, the boy touches it and has scenes of the Wild Hunt flash in his head. Right after that, Gabriel notices smoke permeate from the boy's shoulder, and when he touches it, he has an asthma attack which he remedies with his inhaler. Having a bonding moment with the boy about how the inhaler that he wears around his neck is like his horn, Gabriel leaves for the night.
