Introduction
|
We live and learn. (長生きはするものだ。, Nagaiki wa suru monoda) is the 10th episode of the first season of The Ancient Magus Bride anime.
Synopsis[]
Chise returns to Dragons' Aerie to have a wand crafted for her so she can have better control over her Magic. After failing to do so, Lindel informs Chise about his first encounter with Elias who he later introduced to his Master Rahab. Meanwhile, Elias is visited by a representative from the College named Aldolf Stroud, who voices his interest in Chise.
Summary[]
At Elias' House, Lindel's familiar Merituuli relays that his master heard that Chise was struggling to control her Magic. Therefore, Lindel offers to make a wand from Nevin's tree for her. Chise worries about being separated from Elias; however, Ruth and she still decide to travel to the land of dragons without him.
After meeting Lindel, they ride with him on a two-reindeer-pulled sleigh to their destination, and on their way, Lindel elaborates on the backstory about dragons and a bit about himself.
Upon arriving at Nevin Tree, Lindel hands Chise a hand saw to cut one of the tree's branches and leaves to prepare supper. Chise finds a suitable branch to become her wand. Chise's first attempt at trying to saw off a branch fails as she falls over and is caught by Ruth, who scolds her for not being careful.
Back home, Elias is noticeably upset at Chise’s absence, remarking that the house feels colder wit out her. Via a magical messenger bird, Elias speaks with Adolf Stroud, an administrator from the College, wanting to discuss Chise’s future. The sudden appearance of Adolf's messenger bird and message makes Elias take a pregnant pause in contemplation.
After serving Chise some reindeer stew for supper, Lindel notices the scrapes and cuts Chise received in her attempts to saw a branch from Nevin's tree. He then uses his Magic to heal her and admits that there aren't many like him currently in the world. Before they go to bed, Lindel tells Chise how he first met Elias hundreds of years ago, walking through a snowy forest alone. Elias fainted in front of Lindel after claiming he was hungry, and the following day he served him some reindeer stew. When asked about himself, Elias claims he has no recollection of who he is and merely wandered the forest until he reached him.
Figuring his master would have answers to what Elias is, Lindel decides to take him to her and introduces himself to Elias as well. Using a spruce of pine, Lindel uses it to guide them to his master Rahab. Arriving at her house, Rahab is instantly intrigued by Elias, but asks that he change his size to enter her home. With little effort, Elias does, making him the size of a young boy.
Inside Rahab's home, she admits that she can't identify what Elias is. When Rahab asks if Elias can recall anything from his past, he confesses that he cannot remember anything about where he came from except for the color red. Rahab then decides that Lindel should take him as his apprentice. On the other hand, Lindel didn't want to take him on as an apprentice and chooses to be his acquaintance instead, and Rahab then gifts Elias her brooch and officially names him Elias.
In the present, Renfred warns Elias that he will ruin Chise's life if he does nothing.
